Live Large in Small Spaces

Curtains are always an easy DIY upgrade that, when done in a savvy way, can be rather inexpensive. Some may assume curtains aren’t a way a make a room appear larger, but I disagree. There is a technique to hanging curtains that can make your room appear taller and grander. Our curtain rods before were just simple metal rods that slid to adjust to the needed length. I decided to upgrade to what appear to be custom rods and sconces. They are actually just nice quality, but inexpensive wooden curtain kits purchased at Bed, Bath and Beyond. We decided to hang the curtains fairly close to the crown molding. This is my secret to a grander space—the closer you hang your curtains to the ceiling, the taller your ceiling will appear and the more open the space will seem.

Hang curtains close to the crown molding and ceiling for a more dramatic effect that opens up the room.

An easy, elegant Thanksgiving table

Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays for hosting guests. This year, make sure you’re prepared with a large enough dining table, comfortable chairs, and a lovely tablescape. Buy a large dining table

Having a large-enough dining table is key for hosting a big group of guests for the holiday. You want to make sure that it comes with expander leaves that you can use. Comfort is key when hosting a crowd, so make sure the table is big! Hooker Furniture’s Chatham rectangle dining table can accommodate up to 8 guests comfortably and comes with an 18in. leaf.
