Jess and I often have dinner parties and gaming nights in our dining room, so having enough table space has always been a challenge.  In the new house, there is plenty of room to eventually expand to a larger table to accommodate Thanksgiving dinners and other special occasions with friends and family.  I tend to favor fairly large tables like the Refectory Table from the Waverly Place Collection by Hooker Furniture because it would have plenty of room for people and all my games with their expansions.  I currently have to set up a small table just for cards, and this table definitely has room for board games, cards, and even some snacks on game night.  Plus, people wouldn’t have to squeeze together like sardines.

However, right now our budget is more suited to the offerings of Envision Furniture for modern dining room furniture.  I think the Rectangle Leg Dining Table  from the Kendra collection would look nice with the cabinet finish we have in the kitchen.  I also like tables that are barstool-height like the Pub Table, but we would still have the same issue with space with this table.

Our solution for now is to use the same dining table we had back in our apartment, supplemented by a smaller table I inherited from my grandmother.  This offers just enough room for parties and gaming.  After we decide on a new table that will meet all our needs, we can move the main dining room table in front of the office for meetings, and the smaller table can go upstairs or into the garage for “table emergencies.”  You never know when you are going to need extra seating for unexpected guests.
