Fall, one of my four favorite seasons, has arrived! And with fall comes lots of festive things such as pumpkins, the color burnt orange, turning leaves, chrysanthemums, and (my personal favorite) fabulous red furniture. Since I am now a proud homeowner, I decided I need to show my pride by decorating my front door with all of those festive symbols of fall.

I really love chrysanthemums, so out went the purple petunias and in came the orange mums. Many people take a short cut with mums and place them on the front steps of their home without repotting them. It’s easy to just bring them home in the standard plastic pot they come in at the nursery and place them on your steps. However, if you want to really make a statement with very little effort, just re-pot them in the pots you used for your summer arrangements. I recommend having 2 backup pots in case your annuals haven’t died with the first frost yet. I always feel guilty tossing beautiful, thriving petunias just because the seasons have changed.

I happened to have 4 matching pots with only two that were currently being used. It was perfect because my petunias were still blossoming intensely but it was becoming too late into October to still have summer flowers out front clashing with my fall wreath. So instead of tossing the flowers, I put the two petunia pots on my back patio so I could still enjoy them. I put the backup pots out front and planted my orange mums in them.

I also bought a few pumpkins, two large ones and one baby one. It’s perfect because the pumpkins perfectly resemble my family: my husband, my very small puppy, and myself! I also stashed away my beautiful summer wreath in order to hang up my wonderful, rustic wreath with orange and red leaves.

After I placed all my orange fall décor outside, I took a look and realized how much of an impact it made on my house and it was so simple! It took me all of about a half hour to do everything and it made for such a festive entrance to my new home.

Fall is such a beautiful time, so take it all in and enjoy the wonderful colors and be sure to keep your eye out for a red trend in furniture at this year’s Fall High Point Furniture Market!
