Fixing Up Our Craft Furniture Tables

Other than storage capabilities, the most important part of a work room or craft room for me is the available work surface. Jess and I both have a lot of projects, and one table is not enough to really provide workable space. We also have my nieces and nephews over sometimes for various activities, and Jessamyn has her friend Katie over for scrapbooking. In short, we need at least two tables, if not more.
While we were still in the process of purchasing our house, a friend of ours gave us their old craft table. It needed a little love to be serviceable. The bottom of the table had a shelf area that had broken on one side, and the top was fairly battered. Using a sander, I made the top smoother and easier to paint. I also fixed the leg using wood putty and screws. I picked some white Rustoleum paint for its durability. Laura & Jess had decided on white as an accent color to the purple, so our table matches the décor. Our second table only needed a simple coat of paint since it had been generously colored on by a small child in a previous life.
With our work surfaces in place, we turned to storage. The closet has been outfitted with shelves and another piece of white furniture with shelves and drawers was found for the room to house all my crafting items. This cabinet also offers some additional workspace. Jessamyn’s items stay in a fairly compact space for scrapbooking since she needs to travel with them frequently, so a large white scrapbooking organizer “Tupperware” was all she needed. As her supplies expand, we may invest in some craft furniture from Hooker Furniture.
Now I am left with unpacking – it’s going to be a big job. I have boxes of costuming and sewing supplies, numerous half-finished projects from years past, and a multitude of doodads. The next step will be to add some craft room “flair” to our room after I unpack. Jess will tell you more about that after she attends the Hooker Furniture and Furnitureland South Scrapbooking Party where she will create some scrapbook-themed decorations for our craft room.
