Installing a Bathroom Vanity

One of the first steps with replacing the vanity was to cut the back of it so it fits flush against the wall. We have thick floorboard trim, so we needed to cut the back of the vanity in order for it to be flat against the wall. We decided to use a special tracer which consists of nails that you press against the floor board and you trace that outline onto the back of the vanity. Once we had an outline, we used a saw to cut the vanity. Once the vanity was cut, we tested it to make sure it was flush against the wall. It worked perfectly!
We had to hook up the vanity to water prior to caulking it to the wall because we needed to make sure everything hooked easily. We used Teflon Tape on the inside of the hose hook-ups in order to prevent leakage. This is an important step you must take when hooking up hoses to a water supply. The Teflon Tape is waterproof and when properly applied, it really helps to prevent future leak damage to your home.
When I chose our new vanity, I had to choose a new faucet. I wanted to go with a darker faucet because it would be a nice contrast to the white porcelain bowl sink. I chose the popular oil rubbed bronze finish for a faucet. Because the bathroom had all chrome finishings, I had to replace all the accessories. I needed a new toilet paper holder, trash can, soap pump and towel ring.
Once all was said and done, we caulked the vanity flush to the wall so that it prevented any movement, attached the faucet and replaced all finishings. It was a simple project that created a completely new, modern look that was much more personalized towards our taste.
