Our Crafty Finishing Touches

Now that the first crafted decoration has been created for the craft room, it is time to start hanging up our artwork. The space feels rather empty on the walls, and I think adding some art by close friends will brighten up the room.
My first addition to the craft room is a painting by my grandmother, Christine Bean. She generally does watercolor paintings of New England scenes. This particular painting has a wonderful soft green feeling with an impressionistic representation of a forest. I fell in love with this painting years ago, and my grandmother not-so-secretly took it out of her home gallery and hid it in the basement for me. I was extremely excited to receive my long-awaited painting as a wedding present. I think this painting will look great as it has some hints of purple and blues which coordinate with the wall.
Over the sewing machine we are putting a picture of a purple wisteria vine entwined with an ivy vine. This picture was taken for us as part of a series for our wedding by a close friend. The dark cherry frame looks nice over the sewing table, the only table in the room with a cherry finish. Another beautiful piece of art from my dear friend Holly Bishop will be above our craft cabinet. This wood print is black and white with a green mat and features a very interesting figure holding a flower. Although I was not planning on having green as an accent color to this room, the art is adding a hint of green to compliment the other accent color of white.
Being surrounded by artwork from my close friends and relatives is very inspiring, and I think it will promote more creativity in my own crafting and artwork. My contribution to the room will be several series of framed scrapbook pages, two of which I completed last week. This will be a fun project to add to over the years. I already have a fun contribution from my niece who has made a sign for the door warning: “No boys in the art room. Only Uncle Peter.” I will definitely keep that forever!
