I recently attended the Scrapbooking Party at Furnitureland South led by Scrapbook Traditions.  Put together with the help of Hooker Furniture, this informal get together focused on making your creative ideas a reality on paper by using a variety of scrapbooking tools and beautiful paper crafting supplies.  The Abbott Place Hobby Station was fully decked out with a variety of crafting supplies, and it was good to see in person how my scrapbooking supplies would fit nicely into the drawers in the station base.  The present wrapping station looked gorgeous with beautiful wrapping paper on the spools.

After attending the workshop, I went home to get started on some new ideas!  I decided to start two scrapbooking pages to frame and hang on the wall. To coordinate with the rest of the room, I ordered two 12” X 12” white frames.  Picking out the background paper is always hard when scrapbooking, but this was particularly hard since it needed to match an entire room.  I went with paper that had purple accents to pick up the wall color.  It has a scrolling floral design with some slight sparkle to catch the eye.  I didn’t want to go with paper that would be too purple since there is already so much in the room, but a light touch will tie the decorations in to the theme of the room.

I selected some photos of myself and my friend Katie scrapbooking together at her house a few months ago.  For paper crafts, I made a super cute container of hot sauce and a fun Girl Scout cookie.  Paper crafting is generally the most involved part of any scrapbooking page.  To make the hot sauce container, I traced the general shape of the container onto some silvery vellum to mimic the plastic.  I cut out a piece of red paper to go inside, and then embellished it with some red and orange glitter.  The Girl Scout cookie was also pretty time intensive.  I first cut out a basic circle with a hole in it, and then proceeded to cut out many tiny oblong shapes to resemble the toasted coconut bits covered in caramel.  The last touch was a few tasty chocolate stripes.

After backing my photos on some matching glitter paper, I was almost ready to glue.  However, I really like to label everything.  I made some stamped titles for the food items and backed them with coordinating glitter paper.  I also cut out some large letters for the main page titles of “Scrapbook Weekend” and some descriptive titles like “friends” using my Cricut Expressions machine.  The busy floral print was a little distracting, and I needed to add something to help with the visibility of the main titles.  To make the letters more easily readable, I backed “Scrapbook Weekend” with vellum.  I considered backing the descriptive titles in vellum as well, but then there wouldn’t be a way to easily see the beautiful paper background from across the room.  With the pages all set, now I am ready to hang the frames on the wall & coordinate with the other artwork we have planned for this room.
