Our Honeymoon Picture Comes to Life in our Home Office

As you may know from our previous posts regarding our home office, this area of the house has been turned into an area reminiscent of our honeymoon.  A giant oil painting, a detailed water color, and a carved mirror grace the walls, brightening up our work space with the memories of our happiest vacation.  However, there was one wall left blank.  We just didn’t have any other art that would fit the wall & fit in with the theme.

Giving a Personal Touch to our Home Office

Now that all of our technological gadgets have been set up in our home office, we need to give the space a personal touch to avoid having a room in our house that looks like it belongs in an office building.  Our office needs a “homey” feeling that still conveys our personality.

We became inspired by a souvenir from our honeymoon.  We received a name plaque for Peter as a gift for our 3 day stay at the Royal Pita Maha in Ubud, Bali.  We were very pleasantly surprised to receive such a nice gift after such a short stay, and I also received a very fancy sarong as a parting gift.

Personalizing Built-ins & other Office Furniture for the Home

So you’ve moved into your beautiful new house and you still have a few boxes to unpack, but the office is set and life has begun again.  As we look around the room, we come across a built-in bookcase that’s an old drab brown color, with an unattractive yellow background. What can you do to turn this eye-sore into a gorgeous focal point for the room? Let’s start with paint! A coat of paint will hide a mountain of sins and spring a tired piece of furniture back to life. The trick is to make your selected color blend to the trim without letting the overall piece disappear into the woodwork either.

Protecting our Bamboo Floors from Office Furniture for the Home

Now that the most vital part of the house is finished, our next step is our home office area.  Our last apartment had our desks overflowing with papers in our dining area.  Since we are fortunate enough to be able to work from home upon occasion, our goal with the home office in our new space is to create a more work-focused area that still feels homey.
