Pillows Can Make All the Difference

After deciding to get rid of our shabby college sofa, I had the perfect opportunity to get a very unique green sofa that I had my eyes on for months.  The Green Eyed Girl sofa from Carolina Girl Furniture comes with several pillows that immediately added to our living room décor.  Our living room looked more “complete” despite the fact that we still have blank walls and some empty spaces waiting to be filled with our Envision chairs.

Bringing Together the Whole House

It’s hard to believe that the months have flown by and Peter and Jess's house is coming together so well. It has been a great journey, and as we look at all the steps we took along the way, the latest one is the most impressive.

As we’ve mentioned before, when you begin decorating a house with an open floor plan, rooms flowing one-to-another, you can capture different layers of color that all work together to create an overall design theme.  When we started with Jess's house, we layered the wall paint so when you looked through the rooms, you could see where one room started and another room began by the change in the colors.  The office and living room are a warm yellow; we then went to a beautiful burnt orange in the kitchen which pulled out the colors in the counter tops and enhanced the cabinets. Next we changed to a sage green in the dining room area. All these colors were repeated when we added two gorgeous, large graphic print chairs from Envision Furniture—the Loretto chair with mango fabric (similar to the Collette from Sam Moore). And the focal point of the living room was a large, plush couch in a deep green hue that really punched up its unique fabric pattern. Now when you walk in, the combination of the textured couch, detailed and dramatic chairs and flowing layers of colors throughout the different rooms creates a distinct but collective look and feel for the entire house.

Enjoying Our New TV Room

After Jess put all our remaining media pieces into storage using the two side drawers of the Kendra Low Profile Console, it was time for me to set up the electronics.  I like that all of the cords are hidden from view.  I often have cords overflowing in my work area, so it is nice to see them nice & tidy in our TV room.  The console also has extra space for an additional gaming system that I would like to get in the future.  With the open storage areas for gaming systems, it is also easy to set up Rockband & other specialty controller games without too much fuss.

Kendra Console Adds Elegance to Our TV Room

Our Kendra Low Profile Console has arrived today, and we are super excited to start using it!  My first impression was that this was a quality piece of furniture just based on how heavy it was to move.  It seems very sturdy and built to last.  Because it is set in a low position, this piece is an excellent example of small living room furniture.  However, it is long enough that it could be used in a larger room & still look appropriately proportioned.

Picking a Sectional for a Small Living Room

Creating a comfortable and inviting seating area for our TV room is our next focus now that we have unpacked our multitude of video tapes, DVDs, games, and CDs.  Since this room is technically a guest bedroom, we need to look for small living room furniture to fit in our space accordingly.  However, we still need enough seating for when we want to relax and lounge in the room ourselves.

It’s not just another TV room!

Jess and Peter have a great room off of their home office.  It was initially built to be a bedroom, but we can think bigger than that. After a little brainstorming, we decided to create a home media room so Peter, Jessamyn and their various house guests can enjoy TV and movie watching to the fullest.

What to do with an extra room?

Our new house has four bedrooms in total with the master bedroom and 2 smaller bedrooms all upstairs.  A fourth bedroom is designated downstairs tucked out of the way behind the office.  Deciding that I would prefer to have guests upstairs, there is now the decision to be made of what to do with an extra room.
