Brightening up a Child's Room with Graphic Elements
Kids especially love themes, so consider designing your room around a theme. You and your child can have fun picking from different theme ideas that interest them. The space theme shown above is great for younger boys. Other idea themes might be; a pirate theme, underwater fish world theme, sports theme, travel, castle & dragon theme, race cars, farm with farm animals, firehouse with fire trucks, circus theme, zoo theme or beach theme with sand castles and turtles. These themes can be universal but specific girl themes could include an enchanted forest with a princess and castle. Let your imagination have fun and go online for wall graphics, pictures or decals you can add to the room.
Don’t be afraid of bright colors to add contrast that adds energy to a room. Kids need to entertain their senses and fun colors and bright wall graphics help to add to their imaginations. Using small bedroom furniture that isn't overpowering to the room can really allow these colors to pop.
Graphics can add dimension to a room. You can do your own custom graphics from wall paper or buy them online. You can also buy wallpaper that fits your theme and cut out the designs you want and paste them around the wall. Wall murals can be used for an entire wall or just a section of the wall but don’t be limited to just two dimension. Include mobiles that hang or glue onto the wall an object that gives a 3D effect. Our space room now includes glow in the dark hanging planets.
Kid's rooms are meant to be fun, but don’t get so carried away that it becomes your creation; let your kids come up with their own ideas. Let them participate with the painting or deciding where the decals go. You will find that not only do you have a great new room for your child but the experience and connections you created was just as meaningful.

While I wrestled with the
While I wrestled with the title (the wrestling of titles also being an excellent reason for Not Writing) the book itself had stubbornly and - it must be said - ungratefully refused to write itself. It lies buried somewhere in those boxes of paper, breathing, waiting for me to unearth it. I don’t need a word processor; I need a pitchfork. I need a secretary. I need - a coffee, that’s what I need. So off I go.
